Kaled Hardan & Safwan Abaza

Safwan K. Abaza has been a Neurodiagnostic Specialist since 2002, specializing in electroencephalography (EEG), long-term monitoring (LTM), and intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (OR Monitoring). Throughout his career, he has had the privilege of working with children on the autism spectrum, learning to see the world through their unique perspective and recognizing the importance of approaching every child with patience, empathy, and respect.

This experience inspired him to implement meaningful improvements in several leading Epilepsy Monitoring Units, transforming the diagnostic experience for children with autism. By developing patient-centered approaches that reduce anxiety and remove the stigma often associated with medical testing, he has helped make neurodiagnostic procedures more accessible and less intimidating for this population. Through trust, understanding, and individualized communication, he has consistently achieved a high rate of success in helping children willingly participate in essential diagnostic studies.

For Safwan, success is not measured solely by completing an EEG or monitoring study—it is measured by seeing a child leave the office smiling, having accomplished the diagnostic goal while feeling safe, respected, and understood.

As a father, the spectrum has strengthened the bonds within his own family and deepened his compassion for children and their families. It has taught him that every child communicates in their own language, and when healthcare professionals take the time to understand that language, they unlock opportunities to build trust, reduce fear, and create meaningful connections. This philosophy not only improves the quality of care but also brings families closer together, providing reassurance, understanding, and hope throughout their healthcare journey.
